With dedicated educators, we run a high-quality preschool program for 3 and 4 year olds, and their families. We believe that by providing children with a happy, secure and relaxed environment, they will be able to explore their own interests and create learning opportunities.
Our professional and dedicated staff ensure your child is able to create, grow, learn, love and explore. Pakenham Heights Kindergarten is committed to the nurturing and care of young children.
At Pakenham Heights Kindergarten, we provide opportunities for indoor and outdoor play. Our curriculum is varied with group activities including stories, games and music.
We run a program to help children cope with the exciting and challenging period of change that marks their transition to primary school. We work in partnership with our local schools to help make children’s transition as smooth as possible.
We connect with our local community. We take the children out into the community on exciting excursions. These excursions are a great way for the children to have new experiences and learn more about themselves, as well as the world around them.
At Pakenham Heights Kindergarten, we actively promote healthy eating, oral hygiene and sun smart awareness. We are official participants in the SunSmart program.
The learning program at Pakenham Heights Kindergarten reflects the National Early Years Framework which identifies five learning outcomes:
Our kinder provides a play based learning program, which is teaching children the way they like to learn, through play. It is also important to remember that the process is more important that the actual product they create. The children are valued as individuals that develop at their own pace. Although children are individuals they are also part of a group and we encourage them to treat each other with respect, work cooperatively and communicate with each other. We aim to encourage children to develop their own strategies to resolve conflict and social issues and to build resilience.
Independence is an important part of our program and we encourage children to do as much as they can for themselves. This includes looking after their own possessions, packing up their things at the end of each session and leaving areas tidy for someone else to come into.
We aim to ensure we provide a balance between teacher directed and child directed activities. We recognise the importance of children’s families and strive to get to know each family and make them feel welcome and part of our kinder community. We believe that good partnerships with families maximises learning across all settings. Families are invited to share their culture, assist with the program, come to Father’s nights, share experiences from home or read a story to a group.
Each child’s learning journey is recorded through observations, daily reflections and spontaneous display boards.
