At Diamond Creek East we see children as being capable and resourceful learners. We embrace the uniqueness of each individual child and use each child’s current knowledge, ideas, culture and interests to provide the foundation for our program. We seek to facilitate stimulating learning experiences which challenge and extend each individual child in order to help them develop communication and language as well as advance their social, emotional and physical development.
The importance of play-based learning is recognized and it is central to our preschool program. The Early Years Learning Framework supports and informs our practices in working toward the five Learning Outcomes:
- Children have a strong sense of Identity
- Children are connected to and contribute to their world
- Children have a strong sense of well being
- Children are confident and involved learners
- Children are effective communicators
Sense of Identity
We work to encourage identity through growing the awareness in children of their own and different communities, by learning about the similarities and differences between individuals, exploring various cultures and learning how to engage appropriately and positively in group situations.
Children are connected to and contribute to their world
Our play based learning environment nurtures curiosity about the world, while also allowing children to follow their own interests with enthusiasm and focus.
Children have a strong sense of well being
We encourage children to understand and find ways to regulate their own emotions as well as understand the feelings of others. To enjoying fun and humor with their friends or solitude at times.
Children are confident and involved learners
Children learn and establish confidence through active involvement in a safe, supportive, imaginative and creative environment.
Children are effective communicators
We work to help children build healthy relationships with peers and educators, through engaging children in positive interactions, and teaching them to recognise the strengths and contributions of both themselves and others.
We see our families and children as individuals, bringing with them a variety of backgrounds, needs, tastes and opinions. We honour this diversity – exploring, acknowledging and valuing our similarities and differences within family, cultural, language and other identities. Collaboration between families and educators helps create meaningful learning for individual children. We undertake reflection and also encourage our children and families to reflect on experiences, as a stimulus for embedding learning.
Children are precious and we seek to be an important part of a child’s right to an education that nurtures and encourages them to thrive, learn and grow to enjoy a productive, rewarding and fulfilling life.
