The children of Noble Park Child Care Centre have been building their own gardens.
The ‘budding’ landscapers spent hours carefully constructing their miniature wonderlands, tending their plants with love and care. The activity is designed to teach the children about sustainability, while engaging them in constructive play. Using the egg cartons as part of their garden, the children are taught about recycling and the environmental concerns of different materials.
During the time spent caring for their creations, the children are always excited to see the growth of their plants, as pots start to show green shoots! The colours of the plants making the children smile as they look at their accomplishments. Teaching children about the Earth and their surrounding space allows the children to create connections with their external environments. It encourages them to feel a sense of responsibility for something, by informing them about environmentally friendly practices.
